Biography
Shannon Belardi’s works on paper compose repetitive marks within varied grid formats. Her meticulous practice of mark-making is often a meditation on a specific place in a specific moment in time. Belardi utilizes her own language of abstraction to explore intimate motifs with delicate control and restraint.

Belardi’s work reflects the texture of woven fabric or textile, and, despite their gridded structure, always maintains an organic air. She often works with beautifully worn Japanese papers with varying sheens, warm tones, slight crinkles and marks of time - all of which complement her geometric constructions. Precise but never mechanical, her drawings exude her practice and presence in each aspect of the structure. As one’s eyes grazes over the surface of each work, these moments of humanity become evident: small planning marks, just slightly askew lines, and hand-torn edges. These call back to the private moments and places that inspire each work.

Shannon Belardi was born in Santa Cruz, CA in 1993. She earned her BFA from San Jose State University in 2015. She has been included in group shows at Chandler Gallery in Mill Valley, CA, Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA and Richmond Art Center in Richmond, CA. She held a printmaking residency at KALA in Berkeley, CA in 2018. She currently lives and works in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
