"A line is a dot that went for a walk. A drawing is simply a line going for a walk. Art does not reproduce what we see; rather, it makes us see."
- Paul Klee, 1923
Chandler Gallery is very pleased to present Thither!, a group exhibition, on view from June 28th through August 9th, 2025 in downtown Mill Valley. Thither! brings together a selection of works by Mari Andrews, Shannon Belardi, Squeak Carnwath, Dyan Garza, Cheryl Humphreys, Ruth Charlotte Kneass, Hanneke Lourens, Ari Lurie, Mark Reynolds, John Ruszel, Whitney Sharpe, Chris Whitefield, Alice Wiese, and Janet Yano.
The selected works by these artists explore the concepts of Paul Klee’s Pedagogical Sketchbook, notes from the artist’s Bauhaus lectures described by art critic and friend Sibyl Maholy-Nagy as “the abstract of Klee’s inductive vision. In it, the natural object is not merely rendered two-dimensionally, it becomes “räumlich,” related to physical and intellectual space concepts, through four main approaches that form the four divisions of the Sketchbook: Proportionate Line and Structure, Dimension and Balance, Gravitational Curve, and Kinetic and Chromatic Energy.”
Please join us to celebrate the exhibition this Saturday, June 28th, from 5 to 7pm at Chandler Gallery in downtown Mill Valley.
