At Chandler Gallery, sustainability is understood as a practice of care, for artists and artworks, for materials and place, and for the rhythms of daily operation. As a small, independent gallery, we approach our work with an attention to longevity, reuse, and thoughtful restraint.
We prioritize the reuse of shipping boxes, crates, and packing materials, and avoid single-use plastics wherever possible (in 2025, we used 100% reused or recycled packing materials!). When plastic materials are unavoidable, they are reused rather than discarded. Shipments are consolidated when feasible, and ground transportation is favored over air freight as a quieter, lower-impact approach to moving art through the world.
Exhibitions are conceived with adaptability in mind. Display furniture, wall hardware, and installation materials are reused across exhibitions, and vinyl wall text is minimized in favor of signage that can be returned to use. Printed matter is kept intentionally limited, with a preference for digital communication and materials designed to endure rather than be disposed of.
The gallery operates with energy awareness, using LED lighting and maintaining artwork-appropriate climate conditions without the regular use of air conditioning or heating (thank you, Northern California!). We value local relationships, working closely with regional artists, businesses, and fabricators, and supporting practices that are rooted in our place.
Sustainability at Chandler Gallery is not framed as a finished state, but as an ongoing commitment to remain attentive, transparent, and responsive as the gallery evolves. If you ever have any suggestions of ways we could be better, we welcome you to contact us.
